Le mas du Roure

Situated in the Luberon valley, in the south of France, near the village of Menerbes (cf. A year in Provence by Peter Mayle ) le Roure is a large restored provençal farmhouse, partly dating back to the 18th century. It sleeps 12 people.

Le Mas du Roure is surrounded by 5 acres of terraced land, with roses, lavender, rosemary and irises... The property includes a pine wood, olive trees, an Astroturf tennis court, and a large swimming pool.

The house overlooks the Luberon valley with, in the background, towards the south, the Luberon mountain and towards the north the Mont Ventoux. It has a large walled courtyard with a fig tree, very convenient for eating outside. The main attractions of the surroundings are the many hilltop small villages, (Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lacoste.....) old romanesque abbeys as well as médieval cities like Avignon, Arles, Tarascon.....

About 12 miles away is the charming little city of Isle sur la Sorgue, well known all over Europe for its many antique dealers. The region is quite hilly, with lots of possibilities for lovely hikes. Bicycles can be rented near by. There are 5 golf courses within one hour's drive, the closest being 20 minutes away. Horseback riding is also possible. There is a provençal market every day in one of the nearby little towns or villages, the best and largest being in Apt on Saturdays and Isle sur la Sorgue on Sundays.
